One fish two fish red fish blue fish

Tonight Mike came home and informed me he was going for a run after kids were in bed. It doesn't happen nearly enough for him. He gets stuck behind a desk much too often and it leaves little time for him to keep up with hobbies. Anyway, after the kids were in bed we were doing dishes together and I asked him if he'd go running to the mall and pick something up for me. He looked at me like I must be senseless for asking such a thing, then this conversation ensued.

me: You wouldn't have been a very good pioneer.
Mike: How do you know that?
me: Pioneers didn't need to go "running"-- they got their workout during every day life. I'm just trying to encourage you to get your exercise during everyday life. (Note: We live a five minute walk from church, but Mike ALWAYS drives to meetings!! He's never once walked! It's become a joke between us because I walk to church whenever I possibly can.)
Mike: Whatever, I would have been a great pioneer!
me: Actually, you're right, because you're so stinkin' hard working!

Mike leaves the room and returns with One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss

Mike: Maybe you haven't read this book. "We like our bike. It is made for three. Our Mike sits up in back, you see. We like our Mike and this is why: Mike does all the work when the hills get high."

I laughed so hard! I laughed because it's so true! Mike works harder than anyone I know, and isn't he clever too? So, no I didnt' make Mike go to Bath and Body Works on his run. I figured he deserved a little time of his own.

Quick thinking mike! Very funny! Okay...so I was reading though some of your older posts, I can't believe your twins have turned one!?! I am sure it has been a long first year for you, but from an outsiders perspective...time has really flown! You are such a great mom and I have been very impressed by all the things I have seen you done or accomplish this past year. Every time I woud read about something you had done...as simple as getting to the grocery store I would think to myself, "self, Liz is amazing! Look at everything she is doing with three VERY little children....what did I do today with one?!" I really am impressed by you liz!

I'm totally impressed that 1) he's read that book enough to know that was in there & 2) He remembered it at such a opportun time to use it. I'm pretty sure Justin has never read one fish... I know we've read it countless times at Dr's visits!
(when Justin does read books to the kids it's usually his own version, nothing like the written word)
Thanks for the smile guys!

I think you should tape a little picture of Mike's head on the Mike on the bike in the book. Then ask him to read it to Andrew. (It'd be even better if you could train Andrew to point to the picture when you turn to that page and say DADDY.)
