Mother of the Year

Sometime during the Christmas season I talked with my dear friend Ann Marie who described her day as frenzied and moving to the pace of Carol of the Bells. You know the song,

Hark how the bells
Sweet silver bells
All seem to say
Throw cares away
Christmas is here
Bringing good cheer... you get the idea. I thought it was the perfect description of most days as a mother to young children. Today was just that kind of day for me. It's Andrew's birthday (post will be forthcoming, along with Christmas) and although I did much to prepare in the days before, I still found myself running around like crazy (am I the only one with this problem?).

This evening I was standing in the kitchen making dinner, happy that I had accomplished all I had set out to do. My children were playing happily and Mike was coming home early for the celebrations. All feelings of success.

Mike came through the door and after kissing me hello says: "What's Reid eating?"
My answer as I'm still rushing around the kitchen: "I have no clue."
Mike: "I think it's a Hershey Kiss, fully wrapped...no, it's two...three!"

I don't know why I thougt it was so funny, I'm not even sure why I'm posting about this. I guess I just think it's kind of funny that I've spent the day rushing around to have special outings for the birthday boy, making special cakes, special dinners and my 15 month old son stuffs three fully wrapped Hershey kisses in his mouth and I didn't even notice. Sometimes I feel like my 'Mother of the Year' award is just around the corner!

At least the wrappers of Hershey's Kisses are soft and malleable! And I bet your rushing around like crazy still involves a smile and pleasant attitude, unlike others I know (namely, Me). I'd nominate you for Mother of the Year every day!

I won it last year when I almost left my 3 year old at church, burned three dinners, let my kids get away with eating just french fries and juice for dinner, told my kids that Santa just took back two gifts from each of them bc they cut up my tablecloth, and yelled, "I can't believe that you are still yelling at me after how many times I have asked you to be QUIET!!!!" They played these at the awards ceremony. I felt so proud. Hey, I'm totally blogging this comment! :) Only 3 Hershey's kisses? Sorry, if it were 12-15 you would have won the award.

Funny, Annie had a similar experience when she found the hershey kisses in our advent calendar. There's only so much a mom can pay attention to with 3 kiddos running around! I loved getting your Christmas card. Here's my updated email, too. adabowler@gmail.com
miss and love you!

Hilarious! What's a few Hershey kisses, even if they are in the wrapper gonna hurt? Monique's comment killed me. We all have so many of these "mother of the year" moments.

I would vote for you as mother of the year! You accomplished everything you set out to do that day, made a homemade meal and had three happy kids-- amazing!

Liz, you totally deserve the award! I got kicked off the list of nominees yesterday. I took my kiddos to our family doctor for sinus infections, and as I was talking to the doctor, George pulled the stirrups out and started swinging like a monkey. Our doctor was astonished - please tell me one of your boys has done something similar. How embarrassing!
