Happy 4th

The Thursday before the holiday weekend, Mike came home from playing basketball with a nasty sprained ankle. We kind of had to rethink our weekend, as Mike wasn't up for a family hike or walking around for parades and fireworks. Check out this picture of Mike reading to the kids, it doesn't do it justice, but you can kind of see how fat his ankle was.We spent Saturday getting our sweet cereal and then Keith and Nan took pity on us and invited us over for a perfect evening in their pool! It really was perfect! Rob and Holly came over too and the boys had a great time playing with Elle and Matt. They made soup and rode with Africa in the pool. The boys jumped off the diving board and the hot tub over and over. We ended up ordering pizza, had ice cream cones, and caught fire flies. I think we left after after 10 p.m. We had such a wonderful evening!

On Monday we were able to drive pretty close to the end of the parade in Montgomery and then we enjoyed a few games at a community park celebration. It was a perfect way to celebrate Independence Day with little kids and a sprained ankle.

While at the park, the boys were playing in this little grove of trees with some big kids. Mike and I laughed when we saw our boys as a "team" playing with the big guys. Andrew had checked out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from the library that week and we heard the boys chanting, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, hero's in a half shell!"

That evening, we had a delightful and delicious dinner with the Crocketts and Monreals and then let the kids have a water balloon fight on the trampoline and then spent the evening swimming.




We had a great holiday weekend! Poor Mike, his ankle has had a slow recovery. He's had it x-rayed and it's not broken, but very badly sprained. Hopefully it will be feeling better soon!
