Smitten

Yes, it's true, we're all smitten with this chubby little beauty! The boys fight over who gets to "sit next to" Amelia at the dinner table, they sing her songs, put her pacifier in, and get so excited when her hand swings up and touches them! I wish they were just as excited about eating vegetables, washing hands, putting clothes in their laundry baskets, and getting their diapers changed, but we'll take what we can get.

Cousins and cooking

April's house has been, and continues to be, one of my kids favorite places to go! The boys can run and play in a space larger than our student-sized town home and they have a ball playing with their cousins. They play cougars, house, make up magic shows, treasure hunts, do puzzles, color, play in the backyard and all the other stuff you do with cousins. Usually, April and I make some kind of treat and then at some point the fun comes to an end and we head home. Friday was no exception, as the kids had a great time playing while April and I made a huge batch of granola! Tanner and Miriam were big helpers! I love April's granola recipe because it's not too sweet! I feel like when I'm nursing I eat all the time and this is a great snack to have around. Here's the recipe if you're interested in a delicious little snack!

Granola
10 c old fashioned rolled oats
2c whole wheat flour
2c wheat germ
2c coconut
1.5- 2c chopped pecans and sliced almonds
**we also added craisins

mix above ingredients in large bowl
4T vanilla
1/2c water
2c honey
1c (or less) oil

mix wet ingredients in separate bowl, add to dry ingredients and combine well. Spread in shallow pans. Stir gently every 15 minutes or so while baking. Bake at 250 until deep golden and almost dry, (a little less than 2 hours). Remove, let cool. Store tightly covered (in the refrigerator if you have room).
Put milk over it and eat as cereal, top it with yogurt and fruit, eat it plain, add raisins or whatever sounds good to you.

My other filling and delicious snack is this bran muffin recipe that I seem to make in huge quantities after having babies. I also add nuts and craisins to them!

Almost Fat Free Bran Muffins
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
5 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 ½ c. Kellogg’s All Bran
2 c. nonfat milk
4 egg whites
¼ c. vegetable oil
¼ c. applesauce

Preheat oven to 400°. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. Mix bran with milk until bran is moistened; let stand 5 minutes. Add egg, oil and applesauce, beating until blended; add flour mixture, stirring just until combines. Do not over mix. Fill greased muffin pan 2/3 full. Bake about 15 min.

Favorite Pictures

The last week and a half have been quite eventful for our family, and so I thought I'd share some of my favorite pictures as of late.

This is how you know you had your fourth child while in grad school! Even with a new baby, homework doesn't go away! Here's Mike in the hospital holding Amelia while getting a little reading done. The boys loved exploring the hospital room and my water bottle was one of the found treasures. These two were hilarious helping each other get drinks. The nurses were kind enough to give me a second water bottle, so I didn't have to fight my two-year-olds for a drink! It's so fun to get to live near family when you have a baby because you get visitors! It was great to have April come down and see our newest addition to the family when she was just hours old!
I really loved how the world stops for a few days when you have a new baby! My time in the hospital with Amelia was so precious! Our room was quiet and peaceful, the nurses were actually great at giving us space, we didn't turn on the TV, no distractions except for three adorable boys who would show up every once and a while. It was just nice to have a couple quiet days with this little one.
I love how everyone is so interested in seeing her new little feet. Adorable!
One of the nurses brought in a bowl full of cookies for the boys. Check out Reid's bite!Mike and Nana made welcome home signs with the boys. It was adorable to see them so excited to show us their signs and to welcome home their little sister. We've been impressed with how gentle and sweet these boys are with their sister.
Here's Reid checking out "baby sissy's" little hands. Mike and I keep commenting on how easy one baby seems compared to two. Nursing, diapering, napping, snuggling, is a breeze with one babe!
This last picture is classic! I will say they posed nicely for a picture, but when we were done, the swords took over! It will be fun, and interesting, to see how our little Amelia fits in with this rowdy crowd!
It was fun to have my mom here for a week to help our family out. They boys had a great time going on walks with here and playing games. She's home now and we wish she lived a little closer!
